CarolinaPower recently received a 2018 Excellence in Construction (EIC) Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) for the company’s distinguished performance on a major renovation project at Augusta University Medical Center (AUMC) in Augusta, Ga. CarolinaPower’s team from the North Augusta, S.C. office accepted the award at the ABC Carolinas Chapter’s 17th Annual EIC Awards Gala in Charlotte on November 15. CarolinaPower took second place in the category, Electrical Contracting ($1 million to $2 million).
This logistically difficult project entailed a 15-month phased renovation of an active, occupied traditional Operating Room and associated patient areas that resulted in a new Hybrid Operating Room with upgraded surrounding spaces. The overall project was led by BL Harbert, a leading contractor in healthcare construction.
CarolinaPower Vice President and General Manager Chris Moore noted, “From an electrical standpoint, this high-profile renovation project required the utmost precision and careful planning because our work had to be performed in the middle of a busy Operating Room area — with concurrent activities ongoing and a phased turnover of functional areas. Our project leadership and construction crews worked tirelessly throughout this project to ensure a positive experience for AUMC with minimal disruption to patients and staff.”
What is a Hybrid Operating Room? — A hybrid operating room is a surgical theatre that is equipped with advanced medical imaging devices such as fixed C-Arms, CT scanners or MRI scanners. These imaging devices enable minimally-invasive surgery.
