CarolinaPower Taps Two Apprentices through SkillsUSA’s National Signing Day for Construction Trades

May 21, 2019 by carolinapower Leave a Comment

In a style similar to “National Signing Day” events for high school student athletes, seniors at hundreds of schools across the nation were seated behind a table in front of a room of parents, teachers, peers and local/national media on May 8, 2019. The occasion — the inaugural National Signing Day for Construction Trades presented by SkillsUSA and Klein Tools.

CarolinaPower was among the companies nationwide to take advantage of this special opportunity to recruit the next generation of skilled tradespeople. CarolinaPower’s Columbia office signed a senior at Lexington Technology Center while the company’s North Augusta (S.C.) office signed a student from Jefferson County High School (Ga.).

Both students signed a “letter of intent” to enter CarolinaPower’s apprenticeship program. They each received a Klein Tools signing kit which included a hat, t-shirt, and tools.

National Signing Day for the Construction Trades was launched to publicly acknowledge high school seniors who are committing to careers in the building and construction trades. Whether they are starting an apprenticeship, entering a more focused technical education program, or entering the field directly, the purpose behind the event is to reinforce support for the decision to help close the skills gap and promote a positive image for the trades.
