BMW Hall 52
North Assembly Plant

GREER, SC

PROJECT SUMMARY

To accommodate increased production, BMW made the decision to expand its North Assembly Plant (Hall 52) located on the company’s North American campus. The project, which entailed adding 160,000 square feet of manufacturing and logistics space to the existing 1.8 million-square-foot plant, called for significant electrical upgrades and tie-ins.

CarolinaPower’s work was spread across 10 different areas inside the existing assembly plant. To ensure effective scheduling and supervision of concurrent electrical activities within an extensive 3.5-mile loop, we assigned a general superintendent and two other superintendents to lead our on-site construction efforts.

Because the project interacted with an operating facility, detailed coordination was required to prevent any interruptions to production. CarolinaPower’s team was in close communication with both DPR Construction and BMW representatives throughout the project’s duration. As part of the Lean Construction process, our team utilized TAKT scheduling, which lessens safety risk and improves productivity.

Despite significant rain and associated weather delays, CarolinaPower completed the project on time, with an outstanding safety record. We also met quality and budget expectations.
